What ever path you choose from Buddhism, Dzogchen, Tao, Mystic Christianity, Shivaism… mastering the mind and steadying it to its true condition that is emptiness is the foundation of all path.
In Zen, Chan, Dzogchen, Tao…many time the expression of polishing your mirror is used. This something that I insist a lot with the teachings of the Grace of Being. I would say this is the first step for returning Home that is your true nature. Here a quotation from the book: Women Taoist Immortal Sun Buer by Thomas Cleary From the Embryonic Basis of Jade Purity school of Taoism. ‘You should teach the people to first learn to steady the mind. When the mind is steady, energy stays, when energy stays, the spirit is complete, and when the spirit is complete the body is firm. Do this continuously…The valley spirit, undying, merges with your real source.’
